The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete financial records of Startimes Smart Energy Nigeria Limited, ensuring timely financial reporting, effective accounting controls, reconciliations, and compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.

The role will be responsible for the day-to-day use and maintenance of the company’s Xero accounting system, including transaction posting, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, journals, month-end close and preparation of financial reports.

The Financial Accountant will work closely with the Tax, Treasury, Procurement, Operations, Project, Commercial and other relevant departments to ensure that all financial transactions are properly supported, correctly accounted for and reported on a timely basis.

Key Responsibilities

Xero Accounting System Management

  • Maintain accurate and complete accounting records in Xero.
  • Post and review daily financial transactions in Xero.
  • Ensure all transactions are posted to the correct account codes, departments, projects and cost centres.
  • Maintain and update the Chart of Accounts in accordance with the approved accounting structure.
  • Upload and maintain supporting documents for transactions where applicable.
  • Process accounting journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions and other adjustments.
  • Maintain proper audit trails for all accounting entries.
  • Review Xero reports for unusual, duplicate or incorrect postings.
  • Maintain appropriate user access and segregation of duties within the accounting system.
  • Assist with system configuration and process improvements in Xero.

Bank & Cash Management

  • Perform daily/weekly bank transaction reviews and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile all company bank accounts to the Xero ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve unreconciled and outstanding transactions promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of cash balances and cash movements.
  • Prepare bank reconciliation statements for management review.
  • Monitor outstanding lodgements, transfers, bank charges and other reconciling items.
  • Ensure all bank transactions are properly supported and correctly classified.

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

  • Process supplier invoices, payment requests and related accounting entries.
  • Verify invoices against purchase orders, contracts, delivery notes and other supporting

documents.

  • Maintain accurate supplier balances in Xero.
  • Perform supplier statement reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve vendor account discrepancies.
  • Prepare accounts payable ageing reports.
  • Ensure proper recognition of expenses and liabilities in the appropriate accounting period.

Fixed Assets & Renewable Energy Projects

  • Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure it agrees with the general ledger.
  • Record acquisition, transfer, disposal and impairment of fixed assets.
  • Calculate and post depreciation in accordance with the company’s accounting policy.
  • Maintain appropriate records for solar equipment, batteries, inverters, minigrid infrastructure, vehicles, plant and equipment and other project assets.
  • Work with the Project and Operations teams to ensure project-related expenditure is correctly classified.
  • Distinguish appropriately between capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating

expenditure (OPEX).

  • Assist in tracking project costs and assets under construction.
  • Reconcile project asset balances to supporting schedules.

Month-End & Year-End Closing

  • Coordinate and complete monthly accounting close activities.
  • Prepare month-end journals, including:

o Accruals

o Prepayments

o Depreciation

o Provisions

o Foreign exchange adjustments

o Intercompany entries

o Other required adjustments

  • Review all balance sheet accounts before month-end closure.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure all income and expenses are recorded in the correct accounting period.
  • Prepare monthly trial balance from Xero.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Support year-end financial statement preparation and external audit.

Financial Reporting

Prepare and/or support the preparation of:

  • Monthly Profit & Loss Statement.
  • Balance Sheet/Statement of Financial Position.
  • Cash Flow Statement.
  • Trial Balance.
  • General Ledger reports.
  • Accounts Receivable Ageing.
  • Accounts Payable Ageing.
  • Fixed Asset Schedule.
  • CAPEX reports.
  • Project expenditure reports.
  • Budget versus actual reports.
  • Revenue analysis.
  • Expense analysis.
  • Other management reports as required.

Ensure financial reports are accurate, complete and submitted within agreed reporting

deadlines.

Intercompany Accounting

  • Record and reconcile intercompany transactions.
  • Maintain intercompany receivable and payable balances.
  • Perform periodic intercompany reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve differences between related entities.
  • Ensure appropriate supporting documentation exists for intercompany transactions.
  • Assist with preparation of intercompany schedules for reporting and audit purposes.

Pay: ₦400,000.00 – ₦600,000.00 per month
